A man remains in a critical condition after being hit by a car a short time ago near Mossman.

Police confirmed a Toyota Rav4 was travelling within Bill Reese Park near the rest area, which is off Mossman Daintree Road when the vehicle struck a 28-year-old male pedestrian around 8.14pm last night.

The 27-year-old driver immediately pulled over and started performing CPR.

The man was transported in a critical condition to Mossman Hospital before being taken by helicopter to Cairns Hospital.

Police said a crime scene was declared at the public rest area in the park and that anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to come forward and assist them with any information.
