Update 1.50pm - Friday 15 December

Ergon Energy reported at 10.00am this morning that the Restoration Plan is now available. The company is striving to restore power to 80% of customers by tomorrow night and aims to reconnect all premises that can be safely restored by Tuesday.

Update 1.30pm - Friday 15 December

N17 BURGER CO has alerted residents via their Facebook Page that the large tree in front of their establishment is at risk of falling, with the soil and concrete showing signs of lifting. For safety reasons, please exercise caution and refrain from crossing the affected area.

Update 12.50pm - Friday 15 December

DOUGLAS SHIRE Police Sergeant Damian Meadows has informed Newsport that the Captain Cook Highway from Cairns to Port Douglas reopened this morning, but the road to Mount Molloy remains closed. Additionally, the access between Mount Molloy and Mareeba is also closed at this time.

Efforts are underway to hopefully reopen Foxton Bridge in the next couple of hours. Sergeant Meadows emphasised the need for extreme caution while driving, given potentially slippery road conditions.

He also mentioned that a workforce of 106 people has been employed for power restoration, with 80 of them already on-site engaged in assessment and recovery work.

Update: 12.21pm - Friday 15 December

A Newsport reader has informed us that residents north of the Daintree River remain isolated due to trees blocking roads, flooded driveways, and roadways. Despite local efforts to clear the paths, the process is expected to take a considerable amount of time. It is uncertain how the situation is in Daintree Village as their flood camera is currently not operational.

The Douglas Shire Council urges residents to conserve water as Mossman's water infrastructure faces challenges post-Cyclone Jasper. Making small adjustments, like shorter showers and turning off the dishwasher, can contribute to community efforts.

Update: 9:36am - Friday 15 December

Power update: An Ergon Energy spokesperson has told Newsport 100 crews are currently on site in Port Douglas and Mossman attempting to restore power. Ergon Outage Finder with estimated next update 17 and 19 December.

Although a small number of residents and businesses (check Newsport Facebook for updates) have power over 15,000 Far North residents, including a high number across the Douglas Shire, still remain without power.
