One lane of the Daintree boat ramp was temporarily closed and later barricaded for safety reasons after a vehicle and trailer plunged into the Daintree river over the weekend.

Douglas Shire Council, through a late night statement said the vehicle and trailer “submerged into around three metres of water from the bottom of the ramp” late Saturday evening.

It’s unclear if anyone was in the vehicle at the time of the incident.

Details remain scarce however Newsport reached out to Council for more specific information about how and what caused the incident.

However, due to today’s public holiday Newsport hadn’t received a response by our deadline.
