A trivia night at a local pub had a stinky and undesirable ending for a Douglas Shire resident just days ago.

Upon returning to her parked car on Macrossan St near the Central Hotel the resident had fallen victim to her car being on the receiving end of bat and bird droppings.

The owner of the car later remarked the ensuing stench from the droppings proved quite unrelenting.

The unwanted encounter prompted other locals to query as to whether Council should act and promptly establish and erect signs near the middle parking bays on Macrossan St warning those to be aware of potential similar incidents.

“For the sake of sounding like a ‘negative nancy, I do wonder if Council should put a little courtesy sign up around these trees/parks that suggest the wildlife may use cars as their ‘dumping ground’ or something of the sort,” a social media post remarked.

“I left my car overnight a while back and after professional car cleaning the poo didn’t entirely come off and ate through the clear coat on my car.

“Being a local, I should have known better but I really do feel for travellers who have had the same thing happen.

“It would be beneficial to pop up a couple of modest signs in the garden beds perhaps to warn off the unsuspecting tourists that think they found a prime shady park.”

Just hours ago Douglas Shire Council told Newsport “as Macrossan St is a State owned road, Council will consult with TMR about (any future potential) signage.”

Meantime, Council has also confirmed that it’s across odour control along Douglas’ main street, telling Newsport “Macrossan Street is pressure cleaned every fortnight, and the street sweeper is scheduled three times a week”, to ensure bat and bird dropping stench control is properly maintained.

The reminder comes after residents over recent days had suggested the smell along the street’s footpath and its surrounds had started to worsen as a direct result of the uncleaned droppings.
