Police are awaiting blood tests after a man was taken to Mossman Hospital following a single vehicle rollover on the Captain Cook Captain Highway around 3.20am Saturday morning. No further information is available about the incident.

Backpacker party

Meantime, 300-400 backpackers were asked to move on after holding an impromptu beach party at Four Mile beach in the early hours of the morning during Carnivale.

“We received a noise complaint and upon attending the beach noted hundreds of backpackers partying on the beach,” Port Douglas Officer-in-Charge Damian Meadows told Newsport.

“We’re all for people enjoying themselves and having a great time, but this one got a little out of hand and was very loud, so we politely asked the large group to cease and move on.”

Besides the beach matter local Police praised general festival goer behaviour.

“Overall, we were pretty happy with the standard of behaviour shown throughout the festival,” Sgt Meadows said.

“We had to do a few ‘tip outs’ (of peoples’ alcohol) but generally over the three days we were really happy with how people conducted themselves.”

Donation box theft

An adult female has been charged with alleged theft and a male remains outstanding in relation to money stolen from the St Marys by the Sea church donation box in early April.

It’s understood the pair have been identified as ‘itinerants’ and weren’t locals to the Douglas Shire.

Rider incident

Local Police have confirmed an investigation remains ongoing into the alleged assault of a woman who was pushed from her bike and allegedly spat at by three younger female e-scooter riders on a Port Douglas street just weeks ago.

E-scooters reminder

Port Douglas Police has reminded private e-scooter riders to take proper care when operating them around the Douglas Shire.

“A reminder, please remember you can only travel at a maximum of 12kms an hour," Sgt Meadows said.

“We’ve seen a gradual increase of accidents and injuries from private e-scooter use and those accidents could have been very much preventable.”
