A man has booked a future court appearance after being charged with alleged theft offences relating to recent cases involving Port Douglas and Cairns businesses.

Police said the man allegedly stole from a Port Douglas business on August 2 and a separate Smithfield business on October 7.

Police said detectives from the Smithfield Criminal Investigation Branch executed a search warrant just a short time at an address in Manunda before then arresting and formally charging a 43-year-old man with two counts of stealing and one count of possess firearm (shotgun).

Police also said they allegedly “located evidence associated with the stealing offences, as well as a firearm concealed at the address”.

The man will appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on October 27.
