Although Erin Frizelle hails from Julatten, she's become a familiar face in our community. You can often find this talented artist at the Mossman and Port Douglas Markets, where she showcases her exquisite artwork.

Erin specializes in watercolours, gouache (a method of painting using opaque pigments ground in water), and of course oils, but her true passion lies in capturing the beauty and character of our local region.

Recently, Erin turned her artistic talents toward a beloved Port Douglas establishment. Angela Higgins, the proprietor of The Little Larder on Macrossan Street, wanted to display the artwork in-house and transform it into postcards for her customers “Having The Little Larder captured this way by this amazing artist was a natural choice” said Angela.

The result is nothing short of breathtaking, as you can see in the accompanying images. Angela first learned about Erin through another stall holder at the Port Douglas Markets, Maggie Sheehan, affectionately known as "Mrs. Mango."

After perusing some of the artist’s other works, Angela was excited about the prospect of showcasing her business through Erin's remarkable talent. Erin also was very excited to have her work once again displayed in a place where lots of people will see it “I’ve painted some iconic places in Port Douglas such as St Marys by The Sea and the Sugar Wharf, so The Little Larder project was a natural thing to do” Erin explained.

Dodging cars

Capturing the bustling vibe of Macrossan Street posed a bit of a challenge when it came to traffic, but Erin skilfully overcame it by taking a series of photographs to complete her masterpiece. The result is a stunning work of art that reflects her keen sense of composition.

Maggie Sheehan praised Erin's work, describing it as "very contemporary, with a stylized touch, yet remarkably realistic with tropical colours. For Angela Higgins, the painting of The Little Larder is another addition to her growing collection of local art proudly displayed within her restaurant.

She remarked, "We love to support local artists and female entrepreneurs like Rachel Boon from Jungle Fowl, so Erin's piece will fit perfectly here in the restaurant." Prints of Erin's captivating depiction of The Little Larder have been flying off the shelves at the markets, and the postcards are in high demand, showcasing the enduring appeal of Erin Frizelle's artistic vision.
