Four European tourists have had a brush with the local law in Douglas following an alleged break in at a Cape Tribulation resort last weekend.

Mossman Police have charged one of the backpackers – a 22-year-old man – with two counts of enter premises and three counts of unlawful use of motor vehicle.

Three other men – aged 21, 20 and 30 – were officially cautioned by police.

Police allege the men were visiting the resort on Camelot Close, Cape Tribulation, on Saturday, when they forced entry to a building and stole various property, including alcohol, and vehicles.

On January 30, officers arrested the four men at a Lake Street, Cairns, address.

It’s believed they had earlier been spotted using the Daintree Ferry to travel south.

The 22-year-old is due to appear before Cairns Magistrates Court on February 9.

Mossman and Port Douglas Police are continuing proactive patrols in flood-affected areas and have warned they’ll be keeping a close eye on anyone attempting to take advantage of disaster affected areas, including business premises still shut after ex-Cyclone Jasper.

Far North District Superintendent Monique Ralph said work is continuing to support communities impacted by the disaster. “The Queensland Police Service has a zero tolerance for stealing, especially when parts of our region are still recovering from the disaster,” Superintendent Ralph said.

“If you notice anything suspicious in your area or have information that can assist police with these patrols and investigations, please come forward.”
