One of the most talked about assets in Port Douglas and the wider Douglas Shire Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina, may be soon set to leave the hands of its billionaire owner, Ghassan Aboud.

Speculation continues to grow the Syrian businessman is ready to do business and part ways with the iconic Douglas Shire asset.

In an exclusive document obtained by Newsport marina tenants were told in the past 36 hours a sale process for Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina will start next Monday, March 18 in which potential buyers or authorised representatives will conduct inspections.

Tenants have been reassured disruptions, disturbances to business activities will kept to a minimum as the sale process takes place.

In a one-on-one interview with Newsport editor Michael Warren Mr Aboud said a while back that he’d always remained open to selling the marina – if the price was right.

“Frankly I don’t want to sell the marina, but I received (a lot of) interest from a number of investors,” Mr Aboud told Newsport during an interview on August 30, 2022.

“I’m a businessman, anything is for sale, I’m always ready to talk.”

On August 23 last year (2023) Newsport again put a series of questions about a potential sale to a high ranking Crystalbrook Collection staffer as speculation continued to mount Mr Aboud was seriously considering offloading the local asset.

At the same time Newsport also ran a poll in which 368 respondents or 90% of voters suggested the marina was in dire need of an immediate reburshment or re-development.

It’s understood there are two serious, separate contenders looking to snap up the marina from Mr Aboud.
