Get ready to mark your calendars because the Ray White Pooch Party is back for 2024 and it's bound to be one ‘paw-some party.

Like always this year's event is not only a celebration of our four-legged friends, it's also a chance to rally our incredible local community for a crucial cause – raising funds for the Paws and Claws Animal Refugee and Boarding Centre.

To be held on May 25 at Four Mile Beach, the free event will run through a series of competitions all in a bid to find Douglas Shire’s next top dog.

From showcasing the Best Trick to flaunting the bond between owner and dog lookalike and even honoring the mischievous with the naughtiest dog category (affectionately named tails of destruction), there's something for every pooch to shine.

And let's not forget the fashion-forward canines!.The best dressed competition promises a parade of tail-wagging style, while the Dog with the waggiest tail will surely spread joy with every swish.

And while the event is all a bit of fun, there is a deeper purpose behind it all - supporting local animal shelter Paws and Claws.

The not-for-profit charity has been rescuing and rehousing cats and dogs for the past 16 years and relies solely on donations and volunteers from the local community, with the annual pooch party one of their main revenue raisers.

For participants, the event is not only a chance to celebrate their beloved four-legged friend, but also contribute to providing shelter, care, and hope for animals in need.

This year’s event coincides with the 30th-anniversary celebrations of the beloved Port Douglas Carnivale and there’s a few local legends coming down to join in on the fun.

Fuel up before the comp with a delicious BBQ by Malone’s Butchery, enjoy dog agility and training displays, vet advice from the experts at Port Douglas Vets and a Bubble Show by Bugzy Bumblee.

So, save the date, fluff up your furry friend, and get down to Jalunbu Park from 10am to find out which pooch is the Douglas Shire’s next top dog.
