Car wash owners respond to damage claims

The owners of the Port Douglas Car Wash have responded to claims by car owners about damage from using the newly installed machines to say they had been in touch with impacted motorists before they took to social media about the issue last weekend.
Sheree Manning added that car owners needed to be aware of the condition of the paintwork of their own vehicles before using any car wash, and that advice was well displayed at the Craiglie facility.
“Port Douglas Car Wash is a family run business and is continuously striving to supply the area with a clean, tidy, usable site for all to enjoy,’’ Ms Manning said.
“With the recent upgrade of the automatic machine, we have chosen to install a Mr Magic Touch–Free auto, as there have been over 1000 machines installed on the East Coast of Australia.
“As managers of this site, we have first-hand experience with these machines in Port Douglas’ sister site located on the Gold Coast. We are currently running two of the same machines and have done so for the past four years which have the capacity to clean over 100 cars per day without any issues.’’
The Port Douglas machine was installed two months ago and to the manufacturer’s standard, along with the required signage for users to consider using the car wash, and the site has been maintained to that standard with daily checks of its operations, she said.
“Unfortunately, North Qld experiences higher UV, humidity, heat and salt air which can cause damage to a vehicle's paint and plastics. We have spoken to the manufacturer to see if this is a common issue and they stand firm that the machine is of high standard and has been set to the correct specifications,’’ Ms Mannin said.
“Owners of vehicles need to acknowledge that there are a lot of factors to take into account when it comes to the integrity of their vehicles and its finish, with age being a major factor.
“We have always stated on our signage (as does every car wash you visit) that we do not recommend you enter the automatic machine if your vehicle has pre-existing oxidisation, damaged or sun affected paintwork or has been compromised in any way.
“At Port Douglas Carwash we are offering a high-quality service to our customers, and will continue to do so with Dan, our on-site manager going above and beyond to deliver our patrons a high level of customer service. We use nothing but the best, highest quality soaps, brushes and machines to help our customers achieve an amazing finish.’’
