The Port Douglas Crocs stretched their winning streak out to 13 games with a 52-point win against North Cairns Tigers on the weekend.

The 17.9 (111) to 8.11 (59) result away at Watson Oval in Manunda underlined the Crocs’ dominance of the competition since the fourth round of the year, with the team finishing the minor round three games clear on top of the ladder.

Kye Chapple, Zacob Zboril, Tom Kluske and Brodie Francis all kicked three goals each in the easy win.

The Crocs were only four points up at the long break, but kicked seven goals to none in the third quarter.

Port Douglas will face Trinity Bulldogs in the first round of the finals this Sunday at home from 2pm, with the winner going straight through to the Grand Final and the loser facing off against the winner of the North Cairns Tigers and South Cairns Cutters clash.

The Crocs women lost to North Cairns 7.11 (53) to 1.2 (8) last weekend, and will play in the Elimination Final this Friday from 7.30 at Holloways Beach against Cairns City Lions.

Soccer finals

Douglas United is through to the Far North Community Division 2 Grand Final after beating top team Stratford Dolphins 2-1 in a come-from-behind victory on Friday night.

Trailing 1-nil at halftime, the Dragons equalised in the 72nd minute when Georges Laulhe slotted one home.

Then, in the 89th minute, Laulhe scored again to seal a stirring win.

Stratford will play Redlynch Strikers this weekend to see who will face Douglas United in the Grand Final, to be held at 6.30pm on Friday, September 12, at Maccas Park in Cairns.

Junior rugby league finals

The Mossman Sharks Under-13 rugby league team has been knocked out of the finals after losing the Preliminary Final to Edmonton Storm 34-14 on the weekend.

The boys had a good year after not being able to field a team in round one, but found the numbers after that and stormed through the rest of the regular season with only three losses.

In Saturday’s game, Mecklindon Kero, Andrew Brimm Mooka and Kairi Patterson all scored tries, while Brody Collinson kicked one conversion.
