HEAR FROM THE OPERATORS

Emily Beutel

I had a miniscule chip in my windshield that has now turned into a crack.... unfortunately it is not something I am able to prove so will have to foot the bill myself.

Caz Baker

Don't forget the all the children who are now terrified of the car wash! It used to be 5 minutes of peace and it was 5 minutes of scream crying.

Michelle Simone

I have never used a car wash on any of my cars as I have seen what damage they can do. It takes me probs 15 mins to clean my car manually so it is only 15 mins out of my life every couple of months. As a kid I got extra pocket money for cleaning my parents cars

Dump fire raises doubt over landfill reduction plans

Lucky you even get a recycling bin. Mareeba shire council are not proving Julatten with a recycling collection until 2026/2027

Phillip Carlon

The solution can be provided but the biggest council is trying to avoid our solution as landfill is just so easy. Small Regional Pyrolysis with a bio-digester is the solution

Christopher Saint

Encouraging people to reduce food waste going into bins would also be worthwhile. This can be done by home composting. People put food in bins well before collection day and they become putrid and full of maggots and flies in this heat, this presents a significant health risk. Bones can be stored in a bag in the freezer then put into bin on collection day. Many councils now give ratepayers small green bins for kitchen use that are combined with compostable bags. Food waste can be put in these, knotted and added to the green waste bin - that’s if you have one of course, which residents of Douglas Shire do not!

Sussaro Carradine

Green waste bins like every other council.

Push to replace sugarcane farms with rainforest south of Daintree ferry held up

They can’t even drive a single cane truck down to Cairns without crossing the double lines. Coming home from Cairns yesterday we saw 2 cross over. Not sure how they think B Doubles will work? Someone is going to be killed.

Phillip Carlon

They can do both . Cane with corridors of valuable timber species. Spend 10 million dollars on a bio-digester and convert the cane into methanol for the SAF industry.

Beau Scomazzon

Land zoned for "Agricultural use " should never be allowed to be re-zoned to allow "permanent plantations" or housing for that matter. Rainforest conservation has it's place North of the Daintree River. If Douglas Shire planners allow Rainforest Rescues land grab South of the Ferry what is going to stop them from buying more Agricultural zoned land? Douglas Shire planners need to think long and hard about the can of worms they will open up if they allow the rezoning of close to 450 HA of Agricultural land. Just so everyone is completely clear about what Rainforest Rescue do they turn land back into rainforest that is NEVER allowed to be cleared for Agricultural use again.

The road is now very dangerous with larger trucks mostly cane trucks. I encountered 2 near misses last Sunday night on a sharp corner revealing a Brays cane truck. It was actually smoking the trailer tyres around a corner and way over the double lines. Then another truck way over double lines again just 10 kilometres further on. I have submitted an urgent request as to the results of the survey truck trials from TMR who advised me that they are YET to reply from their information on the actual trials. Either way this road is now quite scary and maybe speed limits should be reduced to 50 all the way.
