Blaze threatens residents in Oak Beach
Fire season

A bushfire on Pebbly Beach Drive at Oak Beach has threatened at least one home and burnt out a large tract of land.
Believed to be started at 6.40am on Saturday morning by an unauthorised campfire, the blaze caused nearby residents to be evacuated as firefighters fought and monitored the fire for much of the day.
The Queensland Fire Department issued a warning for Oak Beach and surrounding areas for other residents to “stay inside and close windows and doors as smoke can be harmful.”
“Smoke is currently affecting Oak Beach and surrounding areas,” the warning read.
“This is from a fire burning near Pebbly Beach Drive.”
The fire was the start of an eventful day in the area, with a cane-truck rollover at about 8pm that evening causing Captain Cook Highway to be closed for about five hours.
What you should do in the case of a fire:
- Stay inside and close windows and doors.
- Keep respiratory medication close by.
- Follow your bushfire survival plan. If you do not have a bushfire survival plan, make one on the QFD website.
- Avoid driving through smoke.
- Watch out for firefighters working in the area.
- Do not fly drones around the fire. Drones affect air operations.- No properties are at risk.
- Smoke can make it hard for some people to breathe.
