Christmas joy on the way for Mossman-to-Mount-Molloy drivers
Shire roads
Users of the Mossman-Mount Molloy Road are in for an early Christmas present, with the road all set to reopen without temporary traffic lights within coming days.
An inspection of the site by Newsport this afternoon showed the temporary platform in the lane close to the hill has been removed, with a giant mechanical broom dusting off the road in preparation for the reopening of two lanes later this week.
“We are targeting the completion of this site by Thursday 18 December 2025 to allow both lanes of Mossman – Mount Molloy Road to temporarily reopen over the holiday period pending weather and site conditions,” reads a statement from the State Government Transport and Main Roads Department (TMR) released today.
Works are due to shut down from Friday, December 19, and recommence on Monday, January 5.
A single-lane traffic control section remains in place near the Mossman-Mount Molloy Road lower lookout until the holiday shutdown period.
Road users are currently experiencing delays of about 10 minutes while the final clean-up takes place, but the road is then expected to be fully open to traffic both ways for about two weeks.
Temporary traffic lights and further roadworks are expected to return after Monday, January 5, weather permitting.
