Jon Stevens, Vanessa Amorosi to headline Savannah Sounds in Port Douglas
Shire festivals
Noiseworks frontman Jon Stevens, pop queen Vanessa Amorosi, electro-dance outfit Sneaky Sound System, legendary Aussie rock band Dragon and alt-rock favourites Kingswood are headlining the bill for next year’s Savannah Sounds music festival during Port Douglas Carnivale in May.
Sponsored by Newsport, the weekend festival will be held at Rex Smeal Park on the Port Douglas waterfront from May 22-24.
Savannah Sounds will headline the carnival week, with other new events set to include cabaret, circus and burlesque shows at Paramour Cabaret in Dixie Park from May 14-24.
Returning favourites include the Longest Lunch on Friday, May 22, at the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, the Macrossan Street Parade that same evening, the Family Beach Day the following Saturday and the Carnivale Classic Golf Tournament on the Sunday.
The Sunday program also includes a Port Douglas Markets Spectacular and Carnivale Coastal Shine and Show.
Savannah Sounds director James Dein said the line-up reflected a strong audience appetite for quality live music in Port Douglas.
“Jon Stevens is the kind of artist who gets everyone on their feet,” Dein said.
“Paired with Vanessa Amorosi’s chart-topping hits, Saturday night is going to be massive.
“Add in the hits of the 70s with Dragon and the smooth beats of Sneaky Sound System and we have a festival program with broad appeal across all ages.”
