Port Douglas is the only Australian travel destination to be named one of the world’s top 10 trending spots in Booking.com’s 2026 Travel Predictions.
Travel site Booking.com yesterday released its annual forecast of trends it says will shape travel next year based on input from more than 29,000 travellers across 33 countries and territories.
Tourism Port Douglas Daintree executive officer Emma Tunnock said travellers are increasingly seeking meaning, connection and nature, and Port Douglas delivers that in a way few destinations can.
“Our community has always known how extraordinary this place is - now the world is recognising it too,” Mrs Tunnock said.
“For Port Douglas to be recognised as one of the world’s top trending destinations - and the only Australian location on the list - is a truly special moment for our region.”
Travellers say what they value about the destination is the Daintree Rainforest, the Great Barrier Reef and the relaxed coastal village atmosphere that celebrates nature, culture, adventure and connection.
The booking site data shows many are increasingly prioritising holidays that reflect personal passions, nature immersion, cultural connection and emotional wellbeing - a shift that aligns with Port Douglas.
Visitors are gravitating towards: small-group and intimate tour styles; authentic interactions with nature and culture, and; the restorative benefits of quiet and wilderness holidays that feel meaningful, not transactional, the data indicated.
