SPORT DIGEST: Muddies go under, Blair represents
Around grounds
A pair of losses on the weekend has halted the momentum of the Muddies Cricket Club.
On Saturday, the Third Grade team travelled to Cairns to play the Bhutanese Rovers at Endeavour Park.
Winning the toss and bowling, the muddies conceded 6/164 in their 35 overs, with Alex Cook the only multiple wicket taker.
Spinner Cam Adam bowled his usual tight spell, taking 1/19 from seven overs.
With the bat, the Muddies failed to fire, and were dismissed for 87 in the 29th over.
Extras top scored with 21.
This Saturday, the Thirds play Barron River at Crathern Park in Trinity Beach from 1pm.
The Fourth Grade side came agonisingly close to a win - and may still bag the points - with Barron River seemingly sealing victory nine wickets down.
The result, however, is currently in dispute, with the score books not adding up correctly at the end.
The Muddies may end up being awarded the win, with the score tally on paper showing the Port Douglas team ended up making more runs than Barron River.

As far as the onfield action went, after winning the toss and batting, the Muddies struggled a bit early, but some late hitting from Kal Zahnow (26 not out from 16 balls) added respectability to the score.
According to the current score tally, the Fourths finished up on 123 in the 29th over.
Some early wickets put Barron on the back foot, and handy breakthroughs from youngster Bryson Collins (4/21) had them nine wickets down before the total was apparently passed, with Barron ending up on 9/226 on the current scoreboard.
This Sunday the Fourths take on Mulgrave at Port Douglas oval from 12.30pm.
Junior rugby union
Douglas Shire junior rugby player Blair Zahnow has made the Far North Queensland Storm Under-15 Development Squad.
The young prop, who plays for Barron Trinity Bulls, made the squad after performing strongly in the Under-15 club season.
The 35-player squad, which is preparing for the 2026 Peninsula Union trials, was selected in partnership with Blacked Out Rugby Academy Cairns.
