A landslide just south of Ellis Beach has partially closed the Cook Highway with reports filtering through that only heavy vehicles are able to get through.

In a plea to fellow motorists on the Cooya Beach Community page, Natasha Lee Marshall says:

“Please, please be careful if driving to Cairns.

“Water ALL over the road, debris everywhere and landslide just after Ellis Beach, which only heavy vehicles are getting through.

“I’ve been parked up here until it is safe to go any further. It was very scary earlier this morning.

“Stay safe everyone.’’

The Department of Transport and Main Roads has issued advice at 6.21am that Captain Cook Highway at Ellis Beach is closed to all traffic and people should expect long delays.

Additionally, lanes are closed in both directions on Captain Cook Highway at Palm Cove and motorists should expect delays.
