The Tin Shed will be closed until tomorrow at the earliest after a water main burst right out the front of the building.

Steady streams of customers were being turned away today, with many lunch bookings having to be cancelled during the busy school holiday period.

"Dear loyal customers, sadly we will not be able to operate tonight due to the burst water main," an online update from about 4.45pm read.

"We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding at this time. We hope to see you on the deck tomorrow."

The popular venue first posted the news of the burst water main on social media at about 1pm.

Douglas Shire Council staff were on hand at about 1.45pm with an excavator.

The source of the leak is as-yet unidentified, and the excavator will have to dig up the carpark out the front of the Tin Shed to find and fix the leak.

The venue was receiving a lot of sympathetic comments online, with it also having to contend with the revamp of the Port Douglas boat ramp and a gas leak in recent times.

“This after the gas leak,” wrote Jeremy Maher. “Poor team.”

And fellow venue Steep Port Douglas also supported the Tin Shed.

“Oh gosh that’s rough,” it stated.
