The Port Douglas Reef Raiders have put an eight-game losing streak behind them with a home win against Southside Crusaders, 29-19.

Roy Legrand opened the scoring for the Raiders in the 19th minute, with Harry Erraji and Maika Raivaroro also crossing the tryline in the first half.

In the second half, Barry O’Toole scored in the 73rd minute and Lemeki Rokomasi crossed the line in the 81st minute.

Luke Edwards kicked two of five conversions.

Port Douglas currently sits in fifth on the table with three wins and nine losses.

The Raiders are at home again this Saturday at 4pm against the third-placed Barron Trinity Bulls.

AFL Cairns women and juniors

The Port Douglas Crocs women had a long journey home to reflect on what could have been after losing to the South Cairns Cutters by three goals at Fretwell Park Oval on the southern side of Cairns on Saturday.

Port Douglas led by five points at quarter time, but the Cutters gradually worked their way on top to triumph 6-3 (39) to 3-3 (21).

Luca Roulstone, Alyssa Bowman and Laura Waldron were the goal scorers.

The men had a bye on the weekend, but both teams will take on the Cutters at the same venue this Saturday in a quirk of the draw.

In junior grades, the Crocs under-17 boys team is sitting sixth, having won two games and lost four, while the under 15s are fifth with a 5-6 win-loss record.

The inexperienced under-15 girls are fourth with one win and 10 losses.

The under-13 boys are fifth with six wins and five losses.

Rugby league

The Mossman Sharks had a 24-54 loss on the road to the strong Cairns Brothers outfit.

A pair of early tries set the scene for Brothers, but the Sharks hit back with two of their own to hang in there.

Mossman held on for as long as it could, but Brothers eventually overran the Sharks, scoring five tries in a row in the second half.

Try scorers for Mossman included Kalani Anau, Terence Anau-Sailor and Charles Baira.

This week Mossman faces Innisfail Leprechauns at Innisfail on Saturday at 6pm.
