Port Douglas had to endure a long trip home from the other side of Cairns on Saturday after pulling up short against Southside Crusaders in the Far North Queensland Rugby Union competition.

The Raiders went down 18-32 at Cairns ground Petersen Park after another slow start.

Jean Valette kicked a penalty goal in the fifth minute, but the team did not score again in the first half.

Three tries were scored in the second half, with Joseph McNeil crossing the line in the 48th minute, Liam Madin in the 56th, and Cervan Vazquez in the 71st.

None of the tries were converted by Port Douglas.

This Saturday at 4pm, the Raiders have a shorter distance to travel, with a match against the Trinity Bulls at The Paddock ground in Machans Beach.

In AFL, Port Douglas Crocs are playing at home at Port Douglas Sporting Complex against Cairns Lions at 2pm, while the women play the Lions at 10.30am.

In rugby league, Mossman Sharks are away to Atherton this Saturday at Mungalli Creek Dairy Stadium from 6pm.

In soccer, Douglas United is away to Redlynch Strikers at Calanna Park on Friday night from 6.30pm.
