TRACK BACK: Long-awaited Daintree Festival returns this weekend as CREB Track reopens
Shire Events

Daintree Village residents are readying themselves for a rare community celebration this weekend following the official opening of the famous CREB Track, paving the way for eager offroading enthusiasts to tackle the more than 70km trail.
This year's road reopening by Douglas Shire Council marks not only the beginning of the tourism season, but also the comeback of an iconic event that has not been held in more than 20 years.
The revival of the Daintree Festival is set to be a great weekend, with all invited to the street party along a partially closed Stewart Street in the Village on Sunday (June 8).
Popular band Poundcake is performing from 12pm and cane-toad racing is even being staged at the Daintree Riverview Lodges.
Organiser Vince O'Flaherty says the event will celebrate the community and kick-start the high season.
“It's one of the first community events held here in the Village for 25 years,” Mr O'Flaherty says.
“The whole idea is to bring some life back into the town.”
Market stallholders can set up along the street for free from 8am, but organisers are politely asking that food vendors stay away in order to support the pub and cafe.
Attendees are being encouraged to make the most of the weekend, including booking a stay in the region.
Daintree Village locals are enthusiastic about the return of the event, marking it as a celebration of the new season and the community.
Organisers are hoping the Daintree Festival will once again become an annual event.
The timing of the event has been aligned with the opening of the CREB track because many travellers make a stop in Daintree Village while tackling the journey.
