Known as the ‘skin queens’ of Port Douglas, Tik White and Joyce Coyle, two passionate women in business, have built a thriving enterprise together, empowering and uplifting their clients along the way.

Joyce, a pioneer in anti-aging injectables, and Tik, a highly skilled beauty therapist with over 25 years of experience, first crossed paths five years ago when Joyce performed a treatment on Tik. The connection was instant.

“We instantly hit it off and quickly realised we were on the same page when it came to business, caring for clients, and service ethos,” Joyce recalled.

“In the early days I said to Tik - we’re going to work together and do something big.”

Their vision took shape when Tik found a space at Deep Pilates and invited Joyce to join her.

Working side by side, they offered beauty and anti-aging treatments to the local community. As demand grew, they soon outgrew it, and so did their clients' needs.

Determined to provide a luxurious, tranquil, and private setting for their clients, they established Port Cosmetic Clinic at Saltwater on Macrossan Street, offering high-quality, personalised care tailored to the local community.

Uplifting women

Their commitment to supporting and uplifting other women extends beyond their own business.

They recently welcomed Ellie, a young beautician from Victoria, and are mentoring her as she trains in new services.

“We also maintain strong relationships with other beauty professionals and make it a point to support them, whether that’s through positive engagement on social media or by frequenting their businesses as clients,” Tik explained. “We believe in lifting other women up.”

For Joyce, building trust is at the heart of every consultation. With her extensive background as a nurse and midwife, she not only provides cosmetic treatments but also recognises when clients may need referrals beyond beauty, ensuring they receive the best care possible.

Looking back on their journey, Joyce believes that true success comes from supporting others.

"To me, success is about nurturing each other, celebrating both the highs and lows, and lifting each other up. Every win, no matter how small, is worth celebrating," she said.

Her advice for women starting their own business? "Start small, be authentic, build relationships, and always stay true to what you believe in

Tik also shared one of the most valuable lessons she learned from a former boss and mentor: “Make sure your business caters to locals, not just tourists, so you can survive the quieter seasons.”
