Arrest after boy on e-scooter assaulted and robbed in Palm Cove

A 20-year-old man has been arrested after a 16-year-old boy was chased, knocked off his e-scooter, kicked and robbed in Palm Cove.

Police said the boy was riding his e-scooter on Williams Esplanade at about 6pm on Sunday, February 2, when a passenger in a passing car started yelling at him.

The man then allegedly jumped out of the car, chased the boy and knocked him to the ground.

He was then punched and kicked in the face, his phone was smashed and his e-scooter was stolen, police said.

The Bentley Park man has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, wilful damage, and breach of bail.

He appeared in Cairns Magistrates Court yesterday and was remanded in custody to reappear on Monday, May 12, after being refused bail.
