With the Carnivale weekend fast approaching, the annual Go Troppo art event is underway at the iconic Sugar Wharf, with 30 talented local artists showcasing and selling their work until Sunday.

The event is a collaboration between the Port Douglas Artists group and Douglas Shire Council, with PDA president Chrissie Mclaughlin saying this is a great opportunity to highlight local artistic talent.

“It’s such a great venue that the council have donated to us so visitors and locals can come see us,” Ms Mclaughlin said.

“We only show new work we never repeat.

“This year we have really great lighting and are showcasing some new ceramicists.”

The exhibition opened on Monday night to a crowd of more than 250 people, and organisers hope to attract many more until the closing day on Sunday, May 25.

Ms Mclaughlin also said PDA would love to one day have a permanent gallery of its own to showcase iconic artwork created in the region.

Go Troppo 2025 is on from Monday, May 19, to Sunday, May 25, 9.30am till 5.30pm, at the Sugar Wharf, 6 Dixie Street, on the Port Douglas waterfront.
