Kuranda Range Road to open at night across Christmas

Ongoing night closures of Kuranda Range Road for roadworks will be paused from mid December through to the end of January to accommodate the busy school holiday period.
Closures from 9pm to 4am on weeknights - with traffic let through once at midnight - will continue throughout November and December from Sunday to Thursday nights until Thursday, December 18.
The State Government Transport and Main Roads Department (TMR) states that night works will start again in early January under “single lane traffic control”.
“We understand road users will travel extensively over the Christmas holiday period and are reducing traffic control measures as much as safely possible,” TMR states.
“We anticipate shorter-term or ad-hoc night closure periods will be required for the scope of works at some sites in 2026.”
From Thursday, December 18, to Sunday, January 4, a single lane traffic control area will remain at Henry Ross Lookout, while the rest of the road will have two-way traffic control temporarily reinstated.
The majority of works are expected to be finished by late next year, weather permitting, but some works may take longer due to the severity of the damage, TMR states.
TMR has been working on more than 30 landslip sites along one of the key roads into Douglas Shire that were damaged during Cyclone Jasper.
