Retrial in the Toyah Cordingley murder case begins today

The retrial of the man who is charged with the murder of former Port Douglas volunteer Toyah Cordingley is due to begin today at 11.30am in the Cairns Supreme Court, presided over by Justice Lincoln Crowley.
The jury in the trial of Rajwinder Singh was discharged in March when it could not come to a unanimous decision after a three-week court sitting, and the case was rescheduled for a retrial starting Monday, November 10.
Former Paws and Claws volunteer Ms Cordingley’s body was found by her father Troy Cordingley buried in a shallow grave at Wangetti Beach on Monday, October 22, 2018, after she was killed while walking her dog Indie on Sunday, October 21, 2018.
Mr Singh, who has admitted to undercover police officers that he was at the scene of the murder, but has pleaded not guilty to the crime, left the state that Monday, and not long after left the country for India.
The trial is expected to feature several key witnesses, including Ms Cordingley’s long-term partner at the time, Marco Heidenreich, friend and podiatrist Tyson Bryan Anthony Franklin and parents Troy Cordingley and Vanessa Gardiner.
