Watch Santa arrive in helicopter style at this community event
XMAS EXTRAVAGANZA
Our Shire knows how to celebrate Christmas, and nowhere does the community spirit shine brighter than at Mossman’s annual Christmas Extravaganza, where Santa will even make a grand entrance by helicopter.
This festive season, Mossman Youth Centre, Douglas Shire Council, and the Tin Shed are joining forces once again to present a joyful, free event for the whole community.
The festivities take over the Mossman Showgrounds on Friday, 5 December 2025, from 3.00 pm to 8.30 pm, bringing together the magic of Christmas in one spectacular evening.
Returning after last year’s Christmas Extravaganza at George Davis Park, this year’s celebrations mix the sparkle of the beloved Light Up the Park event with exciting new attractions, including Carols by Candlelight, a bustling market, and a selection of food trucks.
The night will finish with a dazzling fireworks finale, lighting up the sky in true Christmas spirit.
Brody Andrews from Mossman Youth Centre and event organiser said the aim was to create an even bigger, family-friendly celebration that showcases local talent, businesses, and community pride.
“The event grew from a shared goal to bring the region together at the end of the year, focusing on connection and celebration,” Brody said.
“The Tin Shed came on board as a major partner to help us scale the night and keep all activities free. It’s about enjoying this festive time together and highlighting what makes our community so special.”
The event is open to everyone, with free entry, plenty of activities for all ages, and opportunities for locals to get involved as performers or stallholders.
Brody hopes the night will leave everyone with a strong sense of connection and festive joy.
“It’s about the simple joy of a Christmas night out where families make memories together. Seeing kids light up when Santa arrives, and families singing together at carols, is why we do it, it reminds us what makes this region so special.
Highlights include Santa arriving by helicopter at 5 pm, Carols by Candlelight from 6 pm, and a fireworks finale at 8.15 pm.
Families can also enjoy free amusements, face painting, Santa photos, local performances, a dance competition, and browse market stalls and food trucks.
