Drivers on the Mossman-Mount Molloy Road can expect delays of up to 10 minutes at a time from this week with reconstruction works moving to the upslope above the road near the lower-lookout region.

The road is down to a single lane for about 1.5km, with the usual traffic controls also in place, according to the State Government Transport and Main Roads Department (TMR).

The works at three sites include the drilling of more than 200 soil nails and installing more than 900sq m of mesh.

“Once completed the mesh will protect against future rockslides and contain the natural terrain to prevent erosion and reinforce the upslope,” according to TMR.

“Delays of up to 10 minutes are expected due to single-lane-traffic-control arrangements.”

Clearing works have been done at three sites in the area, with a 6m-high temporary construction pad being built so workers can access the upper slope to do repair works.
