The Run Port Douglas half marathon has been locked in for another three years.

More than 1500 athletes from across the country and from overseas took part in the first event last September across a range of distances, with Douglas Shire Council calling the turnout an “outstanding success”.

Runners and spectators embraced the “unique course that showcases the region’s natural beauty”, according to DSC, while Australian Olympic runner Andy Buchanan says the circuit is the “best half marathon course in the world”.

Mayor Lisa Scomazzon says the council is thrilled the event has been secured until 2028.

“Run Port Douglas has already proven to be a major drawcard for our Shire,” Mayor Scomazzon says.

“The opportunity to finish a race on Four Mile Beach is something truly special.

“It’s an experience that stays with participants long after they cross the line.”

Event organiser Connect Sport Australia is working with DSC to help grow numbers, expand

event offerings, and showcase the region.

“We’re excited to build on the momentum of 2025 and continue delivering an event that is both challenging and unforgettable,” CSA director Bade Stapleton says.

Run Port Douglas will be held on Saturday, September 5, with registrations open at runportdouglas.com.au.
