Some parts of Mossman have experienced up to 300mm of rain overnight, causing flash flooding in catchment areas including the Mossman River and the South Mossman River.

The Foxton Bridge just north of the town centre was closed to through traffic, with the northern carpark fully underwater and the toilet block and barbecue areas turned into islands.

The flood plain north of the river was underwater this morning as the rain eased, and the Mossman-Daintree Road has now reopened to traffic.

Bonnie Doon Road between Mossman and Cooya Beach is still completely underwater at the bridge over the South Mossman River, with the road closed to all traffic until further notice.

More rain is expected across coming days with a monsoon low sitting off the Far North Queensland coast and predicted to reach landfall anywhere between Cooktown to Mackay by the weekend.
