A good Samaritan from a Douglas Shire yacht club has stepped in to help a vehicle owner whose car and trailer had accidentally ended up underwater at Port Douglas.

According to witnesses, the Port Douglas Yacht Club member saw the distraught owner on Sunday who had lost control of his car near the waters at Dickson Inlet and could not afford to hire a tow truck to retrieve it from the drink.

The Yachty member offered to help off their own back, winching the trailer and ute out.

Douglas Shire local Phillip Kilfoy posted photos of the car rescue online.

“When things went sideways, a PDYC member stepped up,” Mr Kilfoy stated.

“One of our Port Douglas Yacht Club members took control and helped recover a stranded truck and boat trailer from Dickson Inlet.

“Well done to our amazing member.”
