Sigh. Some of us will remember when that demolition site was a charming home, from which the owner sold prawns from their trawler direct to the public, in a lovely garden setting, and so proud of their orchids. Knocked down for development, what? 20 years ago, and here we are.

Looks disgusting, wouldn’t live in it if I was given it for free. Will look onto the backpackers accommodation and have combi vans parked outside for half the year. No view, not on the beach but still going to charge.

So sad to learn of Michael's passing. Gordon and I recall the days when he owned the Courty... then the radio. Our deepest condolences to Helen. Just recently said "Hello" to you both on the beach watching one of our magical sunsets. Michael will be sorely missed.

It was about 29 years ago as tourists visiting Port we came across the Coconut Grove Motel. We happened to pop in for a meal and sitting a long table were locals having a wonderful time. Then came out of the blue an American voice saying don’t sit there by yourselves come join us. We did and hence the reason why we moved here 25 years ago. That chance meeting changed our lives that one kind act from a warm wonderful Michael Gabor gave my late husband the parrothead his dream of a life time , a slot on the radio until the day he passed to another dimension. Vale Michael and please keep the boy under control there wherever it may be. Condolences to Helen and Shane.

So sad to hear this. From Coconut Grove to Sunday sessions at the courty the '90s were the best years and now we see some of the people that made Port Douglas what it is slip away. The memories will always remain mate.

Michael I believe you fulfilled your statement that " My job is to make Helen happy". Helen, my sincere condolences to you, through all this sadness and the huge loss you are dealing with. Wow what a life Michael led! Will always be thankful for him bringing the Courty to life… it was such an awesome pub in the days when it still had a full beer garden and no hotel parked on top and no pokies. Will always remember the Sunday sessions and the infamous ‘you can leave your hat on’ song and the old backpacker nights. Thanks Michael for the joy you brought your community. Rest peacefully.

They are a dog introduced by man, and are therefore not native, and invasive. I live remote and have been ambushed by 2 looking to make a meal of me, and a mate was actively hunted by a small pack, they are opurtunistic hunters, and if the right situation arises, we are on the menu whether people like it or not.

No I don't agree... any problems are minor and if you keep your pet secured then they are safe. Sod off to the city if you cannot handle the wildlife.

She has a point, if they were someone's pet dog that wasn't fenced or restrained there would be hell to pay. And if the dog was classified as menacing it'll probably be put down. Dingos do kill domestic dogs and have killed humans so it's understandable some people have concerns.

Here we go again! Entitled urban humans wanting to live in our beautiful part of the world but not accepting inhabitants of the environment that long before white settlers. Crocodiles, dingos, flying foxes, will be our messy starlings and lorikeets next.
