A new art exhibition has opened today in Port Douglas to coincide with Carnivale week.

Tropical Spectrum showcases a host of local artists from across Douglas Shire who are involved with the DAB centre in Mossman.

Vice president Mandy Ryan says DAB has been around since 2002 offering artists a chance to exhibit their work and running art classes as well, but this is a new opportunity to exhibit in Port Douglas during Carnivale week.

“We’re very excited and proud to be given the opportunity to show DAB’s artwork for the Port Douglas community,” she says.

“We’ve got a broad range of artists and artwork.”

Described as a “spectrum of colour, mediums, subject matters and style”, Tropical Spectrum features 47 artists across a host of techniques and styles including botanicals, acrylic, watercolour, oil, sketches, drawings, pottery, glass work, mosaics, mixed media and fibre weaving.

The Port Douglas Community Hall exhibition runs until Thursday, May 28, from 9.30am-5pm.
