SEAFOOD MARKET PLACE RETURNS TO SHERATON
A much loved event among locals and visitors alike, Sheraton’s signature Seafood Marketplace Buffet is returning this Saturday.
The scrumptious seafood buffet will be showcasing various choices of locally-caught coastal treats with an interactive sashimi station, as well as fresh oysters, prawns and scallops.
Executive Chef at the resort, Belinda Tuckwell, said that they pride themselves on working with local suppliers to source the best produce. "When the produce is fresh and top quality, the flavours shine through by themselves," Ms Tuckwell said.
"Another reason we love buying local is this not only supports local business and the people in our community, but it’s more sustainable for the environment too by reducing carbon emissions caused by transporting long distances.
"Saturday’s Seafood Marketplace features a huge buffet full of Tiger Prawns caught off Cooktown, tuna from the waters surrounding Cairns, delicious FNQ bugs and of course fresh fruit and vegetables from the Atherton Tablelands.”

PORT DOUGLAS BEACH HOUSE JOINS RENEWABLE ENERGY REVOLUTION
The Port Douglas Beach House, a private resort style residence located at the quiet end of Four Mile Beach, is doing their bit to help reduce the effects of global warming.
As part of this, the beach house recently joined the renewable energy revolution with the instalment of solar panels.
Kim Marshall, owner of the beach house, believes that investing in renewable energy is important to ensure we meet the aims of the Paris Agreement (2015).
“Our region has been listed as a priority place on the 2022-2023 Threatened Species Action Plan,” Ms Marshall explained. “The green turtle and olive ridley turtle and the flying fox have been listed as Priority Species.
“Flying foxes are endemic to our region. If they disappear from here then they are extinct globally.

“Green turtles visit the Great Barrier Reef to feed and breed. Increased temperatures disturb the natural gender ratio of green turtles as the sex of a sea turtle is determined by the temperature of the sand incubating the eggs.
“It is important to try and do everything we can to avoid this from happening.”
