Search and rescue participants unsung heroes
EDITOR'S COMMENT

While they would never say it, think it or even dare admit it those that have each formed part of the overall and ongoing search teams for the missing 54 year-old woman at Mossman Gorge in recent days are absolute heroes.
Sure, they would dismiss those types of claims and say they are just doing their job, and they are, but it’s bigger and about so much more than that.
It’s bout SES personnel, Police, Police divers, the swift water rescue team, the rescue helicopter and other searchers carrying out their work without fanfare or accolades in conditions the majority of the public would never even think about working in.
Yes they chose to do their job, but I have nothing but admiration and respect for those that spent hours from last Friday relentlessly trying to locate the missing woman.
Amidst surging currents, dangerously fast water surges and extreme rainfall at the gorge searchers have put their own safety aside to get the job done – ask them though and they’re just doing their jobs.
What heroes. Over the past few days as I’ve reported on the search my mind has thought about a range of things, not least of all the plight of the search teams as they bravely go about their work.
It takes special and selfless types of people to head into situations most of us simply even wouldn’t consider. How many of us can actually say we risk our lives carrying out our daily jobs?
So, to the SES, Police, Police divers, the swift water rescue team, rescue helicopter and other search personnel – you are valued, you are appreciated, you are admired – and most importantly you are thanked for your brave, tireless efforts over the past few days.
Thank you!
