Douglas Shire Council has confirmed the Daintree River Ferry will have shortened hours tomorrow and Thursday for inspections and minor maintenance works.

The essential works will take place between 9pm and 5am and no ferry service will be provided during these periods.

This will result in the ferry closing at the earlier time of 9pm, instead of midnight on these two days.

Douglas Shire Council Mayor Michael Kerr has asked for understanding during the upcoming early closures.

“The works have been scheduled to avoid peak periods but we apologise in advance if the early closures causes any inconvenience,” Cr Kerr said.

“Council is committed to providing a safe river crossing for the community and regular inspections on this critical public transport service are a part of that commitment.”

The Daintree River Ferry runs 19 hours on every day of the year, transporting about 230,000 vehicle movements between the southern bank of the river and the Daintree Rainforest.
