Mossman’s Long Lunch tradition returns with Christmas cheer
BUSINESS FEATURE
Mossman’s social scene has been set ablaze this year thanks to the success of Hughie’s Wine Bar and their signature Long Lunches. Anticipation is building as the upcoming Long Lunch, scheduled for December 10, promises to infuse the holiday season with a delightful Christmas theme.
With this being the third edition of the Long Lunch series, these events have solidified their place as cherished and highly anticipated happenings in the local community.
The initial idea for these Long Lunches came from the success of the regular Friday nights at the bar, and owners Paul and Susie McMahon wanted to create another regular event where people could gather, relax, and enjoy each other's company, much like the traditional Australian Sunday session.
At the upcoming event, Lady Valiant will be taking the stage, providing the musical entertainment for the day, adding to the festive ambiance.
The beautiful setting at Hughie’s is a hidden gem, and Mr McMahon noted the growth of their courtyard, making the venue even more stunning.
“Our aim is to provide a wonderful afternoon with great food, drinks, musical entertainment and the company of friends in a beautiful setting,” Mr McMahon shared. “It’s an opportunity to escape into our lovely little wonderland.
“We’re just thrilled with creating such a beautiful venue that’s well-attended. It’s just good to give the community a great space, but to have them love it and support is even more important.”
Culinary trips around the world
Typically, each Long Lunch features a menu inspired by a different country, with past themes including the Basque region in Spain and an Argentinian BBQ.
For the upcoming Christmas themed lunch, Head Chef Jed Sneddon has crafted a menu incorporating wild food and native ingredients.
You can look forward to tantalising dishes like oysters with green ant nam jim, confit pork belly with wild juniper berry and pickled cabbage, foie gras smoked coral trout served with kipfler potato, rocket, and bush lime yoghurt. Rosella and Bunya nut will also be incorporated into the culinary creations.
Mr McMahon expressed his confidence in the culinary experience: “Jed is always pushing the boundaries with his food, and this menu won’t disappoint,” he said.
“As always, our fabulous cocktails and wine list are on hand to ensure everyone settles in for what will be another sensational long lunch.”
Small group functions
These Long Lunches also offer a unique opportunity for small groups, organisations, and businesses to host their functions without needing to book the entire venue.
“The upcoming Long Lunch, for example, is like a pseudo-Christmas party where you can bring your staff to enjoy an outstanding day out, something you can’t achieve anywhere else,” Mr McMahon explained.
“It’s ideal for small teams to come together and experience a great atmosphere that wouldn’t be provided by another venue on an ongoing basis.”
