With eager patrons forming a line before the doors even unlocked, and an impressive turnout of nearly 500 people, the reopening of the Beach Shack in Port Douglas yesterday proved to be a resounding triumph.

The palpable excitement and unwavering support from the community set the stage for a promising new chapter as the restaurant now opens seven days a week for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The grand reopening unfolded with a warm welcome at the entrance, featuring a delectable buffet offering samples of the new menu, from pizzas and arancini to pasta bowls and roasted meats. For those unable to attend the event, the full menu is now available online.

Giorgio Simonetti, Manager of the Beach Shack, expressed that the turnout exceeded their expectations, and the community support was overwhelmingly positive.

“Our main goal for the Beach Shack is to attract the locals and offer excellent service, especially considering our location,” he said. “While we'll welcome tourists, our focus is on maintaining a local customer base throughout the year.

The opportunity for Mr Simonetti to take the reins at the Beach Shack arose from his collaboration with Vincenzo di Cugno, who owns the Beach Shack and La Cucina + Bar.

“We’ve known each other for about six years and worked together at La Cucina + Bar,” Mr Simonetti explained. “I returned to Australia a year ago to collaborate with him, and we decided to open a restaurant together.”

With 17 years of experience in the hospitality industry, Mr Simonetti brings a wealth of expertise to the venture. He previously owned restaurants, including one still operational in Italy, running seasonally from April to September.

The Beach Shack is now poised for success with a dedicated team and a community excited about its return.

Newsport was present at the reopening night, capturing the vibrant essence of the community.
