The rugged Atherton Tablelands transformed into a vibrant cultural hub over the weekend of June 19 to 22 as crowds gathered for the sixth edition of NYX Festival, Far North Queensland’s premier alternative arts and music event.

Held over the winter solstice weekend from June 19 to 22, the four-day festival at Glen Gordon Station offered a total escape from reality, starting with the scenic drive into the bush.

The journey through the 30,000-acre cattle station took festival-goers along a country track through quiet eucalyptus bushlands, past grazing cattle and small river crossings.

With absolutely no mobile reception, attendees were instantly disconnected from the outside world before even setting up camp.

Once inside, the natural bushland looked like an open-air art gallery, filled with visual art installations and custom decor.

Between music sets, crowds flocked to a bustling market village and a wide variety of high-quality food stalls.

Musically, the festival delivered top-tier production across multiple custom-built stages, showcasing a broad mix of electronic music that bridged international headliners with regional North Queensland talent.

Dancefloors stayed packed from day to night with everything from psytrance and techno to deep house and bass music.

That high-energy music was matched by an incredibly peaceful and friendly atmosphere, drawing a diverse crowd that included families with plenty of kids exploring the grounds.

The weekend also featured plenty of extra entertainment, highlighted by Cairns-based performance group Buenos Nachos.

The crew brought a fun, futuristic vibe to the festival, roaming the site in striking metallic alien outfits and keeping everyone laughing with quirky stunts using giant metal tubes and a performer rolling around inside a giant, transparent inflatable bubble.

By blending world-class production with a relaxed community vibe, NYX Festival proved once again why it has become such a staple of the Far North's winter calendar.
