Dear Editor,

I would like to bring to your attention the dangers for southern traffic heading towards Cairns that may want to make a right hand turn into the Willie Pye Teamsters rest area at Craiglie.

In order to turn into the entrance to the park, one has to turn right across the Captain Cook Highway.

Traffic behind one's vehicle when waiting to turn into this specific rest area is often confused and/or impatient, or banked up as there is no clear signage/ right hand slip or bypass lane for the safe entry into the rest area.

Sometimes if the traffic heading north towards Mossman is congested the vehicle attempting to enter Willie Pye Teamsters Park is stopped for an extended period of time.

North based traffic do not have this problem as it is a simple left hand turn from the Captain Cook Highway into the rest area.

One can only exit from Willie Pye Teamsters Park into Beor Street. Entry from Beor Street is not allowed.

With the Gran Fondo event just held over the weekend perhaps the issue of traffic flow around Willie Pye Teamsters Park was highlighted and the need for a right hand bypass or slip lane into the rest area, was discussed.

I hope so because (in my opinion) (otherwise) this is a situation of an accident waiting to happen.

Regards,

Hilary Kuhn
