Douglas Shire community members who shone during Cyclone Jasper recovery efforts, unsung, hardworking local Reef advocates and other residents who simply deserve some general recognition are set to be in the running for an extraordinary experience on the Great Barrier Reef.

Just moments ago Savannah in the Round festival director James Dein announced Savannah Sounds on the Reef – an event created solely to give back to local community heroes.

The premise is simple – those in the Douglas Shire who know a local unsung hero are encouraged and invited to visit this click where in a few words explain why their candidate(s) are deserving of such an opportunity.

The chosen 100 recipients will then enjoy a floating concert on Reef Magic’s pontoon on April 27 where they’ll be entertained by Lee Kernaghan, Sheppard and other performers.

"Savannah Sounds on the Reef will be an incredible start to this festival season,” Mr Dein told Newsport.

“What better way to get things going than by giving back to our local community heroes with a rare opportunity such as this.

“I'm sure these artists will put on an incredible show for them.”

Nominations open today, Friday April 5 and close April 19.

Meantime, a reminder tickets are on sale for this year’s Savannah in the Round festival in Mareeba. Just days ago rising USA country music artist Kip Moore was confirmed as a headliner for the October 11-13 event.
