Local Government elections will be held on March 16. Picture: Submitted

Next month’s local Government elections is the topic currently on the lips of a lot of Douglas Shire residents, who are keen to know about the future priorities and policies of our confirmed Mayoral and Councillor candidates.

As Newsport revealed earlier this morning, there will be an open forum hosted by Douglas Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with Newsport on Sunday March 3, from 1pm - 3pm at Mossman Sports Centre, 46-62 Front St in which local residents can ask questions of the candidates before polling day on March 16.

With that said in recent times several Newsport readers have requested to see the initial Councillor Candidate and Mayoral statements again, so here they are, all in the one spot for you.

Keep in mind, some candidates have yet to provide a statement to Newsport, and this is totally okay. The sending of a policy, vision or priorities statement to Newsport is completely optional and up to the discretion of each individual candidate.

A reminder – In the coming days Newsport will be compiling a series of video interviews with both the Douglas Shire Mayoral and Councillor candidates. These stories will be published in the coming days on Newsport and go into further depth about their specific policies, priorities and  suitability for their respective roles.

Also keep in mind that some of the links below are not full stories, but rather quotes offered by candidates at the time of confirming their nomination.

Candidates are more than welcome to submit letter to the editors, or further statements about their policies and priorities to Newsport when they see fit.
