Each Tuesday and Thursday morning, before the first bell rings, Mossman State High School buzzes with an extra dose of enthusiasm thanks to the Mossman Lil' Cafe. 

Managed and run by the school’s industrious students, the cafe offers a delicious array of beverages, including freshly made coffees, rich hot chocolates, cool iced coffees, and creamy milkshakes, providing both warmth and refreshment to kickstart the day.

Special accolades go to Louisa Walker, Eloise Lefel and Nathanael Moody, whose dedication behind the counter is unmatched. The initiative also owes its success to the invaluable support and guidance provided by Ms Bennet, Mr Moody, and Mrs McLean.

The Mossman Lil’ Cafe is not just about beverages; it showcases the students’ commitment to learning new skills and serving their community with a smile.

Intergenerational bonding at Port Douglas State School

At Port Douglas State School, the 5/6KW class is fostering meaningful connections with senior members from the Mossman Hospital community health, thanks to an innovative program spearheaded by classroom teacher Kelda Wray.

Since its inception in February, the program has thrived, with fortnightly sessions that bring together students and seniors for a range of engaging activities. Natalie from Mossman Community Health expressed her support for the initiative, affirming its positive impact.

The sessions are filled with laughter and camaraderie as participants dive into activities like paper plane races, trivia challenges, game shows like “The Price is Right”, and board games, among others. 

The students eagerly await each session, relishing the opportunity to engage with the older generation, while the senior buddies also look forward to their visits, enjoying the rejuvenating experience of “feeling young again”.

Miallo State School students dive into hands-on science projects

At Miallo State School, students across all grades are diving headfirst into engaging hands-on science projects that are sparking curiosity and fostering learning.

In the Preppies class, little learners dive into the world of materials, sorting objects and discussing their properties. Later this term, the students will be choosing which materials to use to construct their own wind chime.

Meanwhile, Year 3/4 students have created their own mini water cycles, observing nature’s magic firsthand. And in Year 6, the buzz of excitement surrounds circuit construction, as students explore the electrifying world of electricity.
