A man has been rushed to hospital after a crash involving a car and an e-scooter in Port Douglas.

The man in his 30s sustained head injuries during the incident, which took place at about 9.30pm last night (Monday, August 11) on the corner of Grant Street and Warner Street in the centre of town.

The Queensland Ambulance Service described the injury as “minor”.

The State Government has been conducting a parliamentary inquiry into personal mobility devices such as e-scooters following an 112 per cent rise in injuries from 2021-24.

Four riders have so far died on Queensland roads this year.

The Queensland Police Service has been warning e-scooter riders to take more care on roads, including wearing helmets, not carrying other passengers and not using roads illegally.

The state laws allow e-scooters on roads with limits up to 50km/h, but not on highways or major arterial roads.

Riders must travel no faster than 25km/h on roads and bike paths and 12km/h on footpaths.

If you have information about this, or any other, incident contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or crimestoppersqld.com.au.
