The time has come for lovers of water parks to unite - the opening date for the Port Douglas Splash Park has been announced.

The new tourist attraction will be open to the public at 10.15am on Saturday, September 20, with a full day of festivities planned by Douglas Shire Council to celebrate the day.

After the clock ticks down, Mayor Lisa Scomazzon will press a button to activate the waterspouts and invite the crowd to rush in and enjoy the fun.

The opening-day party will include a live DJ, Sea Circus performances, a Bubble Lady and Daintree Ice Cream giveaways.

And, from 5-8pm, there will be a Splash Park After Dark event including choreographed water fountains and coloured lights.

The official opening, from 10am, will include speeches by Mayor Scomazzon, Cook MP David Kempton and JMAC construction manager Greg LeBrocque.

There will also be a sneak-peek school-student Splash Park Party on Thursday, September 18.

The park is located at Jalunbu Park, Garrick Street, Port Douglas, behind the Surfy.

See you there!
