The 16km Twin Bridges Track from Wangetti to Mowbray was today opened to the public.

The Track, which runs along east of the original Black Mountain Road to the Bump Track, was re-opened after being repaired as part of the new Wangetti Trail route after closing in 2020.

The Wangetti Trail project, which is now being led by the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, has a new Wangetti Trail Advisory Committee, which started regular meetings in late October.

“We’re continuing engagement with Traditional Owner partners and will also soon set up community reference groups to reflect local perspectives,” Barron River MP Bree James said of the new committee.

The Twin Bridges Trail is a shared walking and mountain-bike track, but horses and trail bikes are not permitted.

Construction of the Ellis Beach to Wangetti part of the Wangetti Trail is planned to be resumed next year after the wet season finishes, with the more than $70m trail expected to be completed by 2028.
