Douglas Shire will come together to celebrate NAIDOC Week with two community-focused events on 28 and 30 July, reflecting this year’s national theme: The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy.

The 2025 theme marks 50 years of NAIDOC Week, celebrating the strength of young leaders, the vision of communities, and the enduring legacy of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

Ceremony and Street Parade

On Monday 28 July, the week begins with a Flag Raising Ceremony at 10am, featuring a Welcome to Country, speeches from Elders and Mayor Lisa Scomazzon, and flag raising by Elders and students. A cake cutting will follow.

At 11am, the NAIDOC Street Parade will set off from Mossman State High School and make its way to George Davis Park for NAIDOC in the Park. The community is invited to enjoy market stalls, entertainment, activities, and a free BBQ.

The Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre will join the parade with their new electric bus and NITA students, reflecting this year’s theme: Strength, Vision & Legacy. The students represent legacy, the electric bus symbolises vision, and their united presence highlights strength.

Mossman Gorge Community Day

On Wednesday 30 July, the Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre will host a relaxed Community Day from 10am to 2pm, featuring a small collection of local stalls and NAIDOC-themed creations in a quiet celebration of culture and community.
