Jumping pooch rips into previous Mossman Show record

Rip the dog is still coming back down to Earth after breaking the Mossman Show record for dog high jumping last week.
The Belgian malinois soared to 2.4m to claim the prize, but he took the competition all in his stride, according to owner Carey Daly.
“It was amazing, I didn’t do any practising or anything like that, he just put his trust in me,” Carey said yesterday.
“But he’d do anything for me really.”
In a true rags-to-riches tale (or should that be “tail”?) Rip was a rescue dog who was injured and traumatised when Carey adopted him - hence the name.
“When I first got him he’d had a lot of trauma in his life, so he pretty much ripped up everything,” she said.
He had a substantial injury to one paw, and ended up having to have a toe amputated.
“For what he has been through he shows incredible nerve.”
Rip soon settled into life with his new owner, is now incredibly loyal to Carey, and is in training with K9 Academy in Cairns learning protection and security work.
Known for their remarkable stamina, intelligence, agility and athleticism, Carey thought a Belgian malinois might have a good chance of taking out the Mossman Show prize, but she did not imagine he would jump that high.
“Our bond is amazing - he would literally do anything I ask of him, let alone win and break the record,” she said.
“He truly is an extremely loyal, magic boy.”
